Vocational Sewing School Project reached its first phase

November 2014

By the end of November 2014, the Vocational Sewing School Project reached its first important phase - the building for the sewing centre is finally done!

The building was made with the financial help of Mrs Nhean PhoungMaly, executive director of Rachna Satrei, Minnesota Veterans for Progress and donors from Australia, Mrs Helen Elms and Mr Alan Elms.

The aim of the Vocational Sewing School Project is to provide and support 25 adolescents and young women from 12 districts throughout Siem Reap province with training in sewing and life skills with a training cycle of 10 months, including the followings:

- Tailor/ seamstress course

- English course

- Life skills workshop

- Women’s right workshop.

The selection of the participants will be done through an interview process in close consultation with senior community members. Rachna Satrei is looking for vulnerable young women who are struggling to find an employment and who are victims of domestic’s violence and trafficking.

In order to be able to start training, Rachna Satrei focuses now on the purchase of the necessary materials for teaching, on fundraising for finishing the second floor where the women involved can stay (eventually with their children) and on the selection phase.

What Rachna Satrei would need to continue its project:

Sewing machines: $250/machine

Fabrics and sewing materials: $100

Teaching desks: $120/desk

Chairs: $5/chair

Bicycles: $48/bicycle

Lunch offered to the trainees: $25/day

If you would like to help Rachna Satrei to fulfil its engagement in helping women in need please see our Contact page to inquire.

We would be grateful for your donation!
