Rachna Satrei attended a conference on 27th September set up by the Fisheries Action & Coalition Team (FACT) and the IUCN environmental network.  We are often involved with environmental agencies due to the consistent link between conservation and social progress, our main concern!

FACT is a coalition of NGOs working to protect fisheries, water resources, and other natural resources in the coastal, Mekong and Tonle Sap provinces in Cambodia. It encompasses climate and environmental issues as well as economic ones and aims to strengthen the network between members.

The IUCN is an international network that acts as a neutral space for stakeholders to forge solutions to environmental issues, providing conservation data, tools for best practice, and a wide range of projects that aim to reduce habitat loss and improve community well-being.

Alongside EU delegates and others from around Cambodia, these two organisations joined forces at the conference to examine integrating natural resource management into community investment plans. Rachna Satrei attended in the hopes of discussing how to secure funding for our community fisheries, a constant issue in community investment planning. We work hard to promote a social agenda in these plans as well as an environmental one – as a form of sustainable development, community fisheries can also be a resource to help secure future generations’ socio-economic prosperity.
